30 Day Song Challenge Day 05 – A Song that Reminds You of Someone

There are a lot of songs that remind me of someone. There have been so many people that have come and gone in my life, that sometimes I think it might be hard to listen to  a song and not associate it with another person. Those experiences are a deep part of who I am, and the emotions that they provoke are intense and amazing.

Good or bad, being reminded of a person from your past is powerful. Real emotions are hard to contain and the never fully go away, they just fade to the back of your mind for a while, until something brings them boiling out.

Mr. Brightside – The Killers

I try to convince myself to stop being bitter about it. No one is to blame for my emotions but myself, and no one should be held accountable for the way I feel. It doesn’t make the pain any easier to deal with, and even as old as that wound is now, it still flares up whenever I think about it, and the Killers are just too good not to make me think about it.

How Soon is Now – The Smiths

There was a time when I was surrounded by people who saw the world a lot differently than the teeming masses on the streets. It was a collective of people that had pretty much been rejected from every other clique of cliches wondering the plant. It was about this time that I was first introduced to the amazing juxtaposition that is The Smiths: Music that sounds like it should be an incredibly upbeat and happy song companioned with lyrics that would make Little Miss Sunshine slit her own wrists. It seemed like the perfect music for a group of freaks and weirdos, and it always reminds me of them.

Send Me An Angel – Zeromancer

Damn it, We-ee We-ee, this song gets stuck in my head every time I hear it, and thanks to you, I’ve heard it BILLIONS of times. Back in the day, when there were six of us sharing a one bedroom apartment, you played this song 1900 times a day, and I don’t think I ever really appreciated it until much later in my life.

The list goes on forever like that. It gets pretty sappy and depressing though, so I figured I’d cut it off early before anyone got hurt.
