Action. When it comes to aspirations, its not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen. What’s your next step?
Let me see your cabbage patch….
I know a thing or two about fear and anxiety holding you back. Its not unheard of for it to take an entire group of my friends to get me to go over and dance near some cute girls at a bar.
Its funny, that I’ve never backed down from an argument, and have no problems taking charge of a group of people when I start to see then faltering around dragging their feet, but I actually have to be dragged by the arm to go and stand near someone I might want to talk to.
The worst is the pining….
If you ask my best friends, the Alchohologists (yes, that extra h is purposeful), then they’d probably tell you that next to my tendency to ramble endlessly with useless information, my tendency to sit in a tired funk pining for women I haven’t had the courage to talk to, is probably my most annoying habit. I’m making strides though.
I recently decided that I would start taking some chances, and actually putting out some of the things that came to my mind. A lot of that has to do with this blog, and the positive feedback I’ve gotten from the #Reverb10 community. I’ve learned the importance of putting myself on the line, and just diving in. I’ve never been good at making plans and sticking to them, but these days I feel like I have an obligation, even if its to imaginary people.
I have an obligation to myself, and I need to remember that.
I once heard Dr Drew on Loveline describe someone as having a “Guardian Complex,” and as he talked to this guy, I couldn’t help but think, “What’s wrong with that?” Well, Dr Drew told us what was wrong with that. Sometimes, we forget that we have to do what is good for us, too. I’ve been doing my best for the last couple of years to be a good citizen, a responsible adult and a dutiful friend. I’ve reaped some benefits from all of that, but at the same time, I’ve forgotten that there are things I have to do to make myself happy.
Really, I’ve forgotten how to just have fun.
I guess I’m lucky I have friends to remind me that sometimes you just have to bounce around to some music, and I had to be reminded that I’m pretty good at the cabbage patch.
Besides, I can always rock the white guy overbite, right?
