10,000 Steps

My feet hurt. My ankles are swollen. I’m tired and cranky.

But, the collars on my shirts fit a little better.

A few weeks ago, I joined a team participating in a fitness challenge. The goal is for the entire team to walk enough steps to hit all of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World. It’s a 2000 mile journey.

And, I’m pretty much the weak link on the team.

When I started counting my steps back in March, I averaged less than 4,000 steps every day.

But, I’ve made some small changes.

I refill my water at the water fountain on the other side of the hall because it gives me an extra 54 steps each time. Since I quit smoking, I’ve had more time to focus on walking. I get sweaty, but I keep going.

I’m trying to be 1% better every day. Just add 1% more steps from the day before. Walk a little further. Feel a little stronger.

Today, I hit a milestone:

Using the Pedometer App on Android

10,000 Steps is a good goal. It’s easy to remember and it’s popular.

I’m not tracking my weight. I don’t think I’m going to walk my way to being skinny.

But, I can celebrate my small victories.

And walk 10,100 steps tomorrow.
