Chromebook Journey Begins

So, it’s been a long week. For those of you that might not know, I work for a government agency involved in finances on a certain day of the year. I also happen to be the receptionist for that agency. You might be able to extrapolate that to mean that I had a crazy Tuesday. I did, and I’ve been having a little bit of a struggle getting myself put back together. It took a lot more out of me than I was expecting.

That’s ultimately okay, though. We did manage to finish Alcohologist Chronicles Season One this week, and that was a huge accomplishment.

I’ve also written about 5% of Seven Keys Saga 2, but I have it fully outlined. It is going to be awesome. I’m looking forward to getting it finished in the next few weeks.

Of course, all of that includes working with Chris on a brand new project, completely different from AC. This one is going to be…

Well, it’s still too early to call it anything, but I can say, “If you read it, you will probably contemplate a murder-suicide cult. Guaranteed.”

In the meantime, some physical things have kept me from spending hours in my computer chair without a big deal of pain. So, I’ve spent more and more time writing on my tablet, using the desktop share app to still access Scrivener. Unfortunately, if you’ve ever tried to type for an extended period on a tiny bluetooth keyboard, you know that it really hacks at your wrists quickly. So, I started thinking about picking up a laptop.

I have to admit, I’ve considered picking up a Chromebook since I first heard about them a few years back. It seemed like a great product for me, since I don’t really play video games, and even if I did, I wouldn’t play them on a laptop. I can do everything I need to do without having all those fancy gorilla-ware apps that everyone is always touching themselves over.

Except Scivener. I do have to have Scrivener… for formatting.

So, today, I went ahead and took the plunge. I picked up an Acer C720 Chromebook. So far, I’m pretty happy with it, although I’ve been working on it for only about an hour so far. No complaints.

I’ll keep you guys updated as I use it more, since when I was trying to get some user opinions on it, most were pretty…

Well, we’ll say most reviews get lumped into the “fanboy” or “uninformed” categories and leave it at that.
