I’m a strong believer in how evocative music can be. Good music pulls on memories to bring emotions to the forefront, and better music directly interacts with your brain to put you in a drug-like state where you can’t stop yourself from being drawn into the power of the song. Really, the Pied Piper had it right, the best songs are a strange mind control that can make you bounce around like a hyperactive chipmunk hopped up on meth and pcp, or send you balling over a ledge, diving for the sweet release that only the sharp rocks below can bring.
Metaphorically speaking, of course.
There are many kinds of happy, of course, and music tends to try to explore them all. There is the kind of happy that comes from a smug sense of satisfaction, like you get from being on a boat; the kind of happy that comes from seeing that one girl you’ve always had a crush on walking by; and of course, there is the kind of happy you get from being fed sugar fill confections.
There is one song, though, that no matter what mood a person is it, it is 100% guaranteed to snap them out of it and make them down right giddy.
I am, of course, talking about Scatman…
