The flavor of love #reverb10

I’ve eaten a lot of great food over the years. That is probably pretty evident in my size. This fat guy likes to eat. That’s why when I read the reverb10 prompt for today, I thought, well that’ll be easy.

Soul food: what did you eat this year that you’ll never forget? What went into your mouth & touched your soul?

After the easy joke about things in the mouth faded away, my first thought went to fried chicken. I love fried chicken. It is definitely my comfort food. The food that I eat whenever I’m feeling a little depressed. KFC is like an open bar to me. This has been my go to favorite food since kindergarten.

That made me think about the month this year in which I lived with the cooking comerade. She and her husband are vegans, and while they stayed with me, I tried it out. When she asked me if their was any food that she veganize for me, of course I answered fried chicken. So she did, introducing me to something amazing, seitan.

Seitan is wheat glutton, or by best description, food playdough. It absorbs the flavor of, well anything, and  through trial and error, I’ve learned a couple of tricks to control the texture. It’s a wonderful thing to have eaten, and I recommend everyone try it.

Actually, as a person that has spent years either eating fast food or ramen noodles, he last few months have been great for me. My new roommate also cooks regularly. The simple act of having a home cooked meal makes a world of difference to how the food nourishes you.

They say that the emotions that food is cooked with go into the flavor of the food. I’d say that there is more to it than that. I think the emotions that go into the food vitalize it, and give it the ability to share those emotions with the eater.

This year, for the first time in a while, my food has been made with care and love. That makes all the difference.

When was the last meal you had that was made with love?
