Appreciate. What’s the one thing you have come to appreciate most in the past year? How do you express gratitude for it?
There are things that I always remember to appreciate. I have a great family, good friends, a nice job, a new car, and well behaved dog. There are lots of obvious things to be thankful for. You know the big, “I want to give a shout out,” thanks. Those are great, but you always remember them.
Its the little things that we forget to enjoy.
Tonight, I came home from work tired, and still feeling a little under the weather. I walked up the stairs greeted by both of the dogs, my golden retriever and the roommate’s chihuahua, and into my office I went. I was grumpy and more than a little just wanting to be left alone.
Then, I saw it, sitting there on my desk. A little bomb-omb filled with sugary candy. I looked at my roommate at his desk and said, “Are you trying to blow me up?”
His reply was a very dry, “Yes.”
It made me feel a little better.
Its great to remember the big, but its the small that matters.
Over the last year, there have been some big moments that I am very thankful for, but none of them are as important as all the little things piled up on top of each other. The friend that gives you a little bomb-omb, or the letter you get in the mail from your mom. Those are the things that keep us going in the times when we’re really thinking about giving up. The small gestures that remind us that we’re not alone.
Besides, who doesn’t want a bomb full of sugar?
