The Night of Too Many Stars

There are a lot of things that can be done for charity. You could volunteer. You could donate money. You could spread awareness for different charities through some form of online commentary.

Or you could, you know, watch 4 hours of comedy central and worry about Cherry Vanilla Doctor Pepper shooting out your nose.

Me, I chose 2 of the four options above.

For those of you not in the know, The Night of Too Many Stars is a charity event hosted by John Stewart to help raise funds for Autism organizations, like the New York Center for Autism. Basically, its a 4 hour long telethon with a bunch of really funny people talking, while a bunch of really famous people sit behind them and talk on the phone to people with money to give them.

Its pretty much an awesome program for raising money for anything.

As I sat with my friends, laughing over the ridiculous antics of these comedians, we started discussing the issue of Autism, and how it effects people we know. We talked about charity organisations, research, and my insane theories about different behavioral and developmental disorders being signs of superhuman mutation leading to the human race evolving into a new, more powerful race of x-men. At some point, I realized that this comedy program/telethon had gotten to us exactly they way they wanted it to, we were talking about the problem.

Then we got the chance to vote for Olivia Munn’s dress to be ripped off.

Yep… that’s charity right there.

Its good, in a time when we are all suffering from the economy, to be reminded that there are those out there that have it worse than us, and, if, instead of eating one lunch at McDonald’s this week, we can help make someone else’s life a little bit better. I think, no matter which side of the political spectrum you fall on, you can agree that it is a noble endeavor to help better all of mankind.

Even just a little.
