New York Gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino says it best when he says, “I just think my children and your children would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family.” I agree. I think we’re all better off when we have the love and support of a family behind us.
What I don’t agree, Mr Paladino, is that you can’t have a loving family if you’re not hetero.
Paladino shows us exactly what is wrong with the Republican party right now, they’re still living in the fictional utopia of the 1950s. These people honestly believe that what they’re saying will guide us to a better, happier America.
I call bullshit.
I want an America with less government control over our personal lives. I don’t smoke pot, but I can’t see any reason for it to be more illegal than cigarettes or alcohol. I don’t have sex with men, but I don’t see why its any different than going out and banging a bunch of chicks. At least those gay dudes aren’t out making more bastard babies with no fathers.
They don’t see things that way. These Republicans live in a world that is 60 years older than the rest of us. Its run by the boys club hidden away in back room deals over fine scotch and imported cigars. They want the world of Pleasantville.
Wake up, America. We are beyond that now. We are a world of communication and technology. You can’t make a deal in the back room of the Cigar Box, because that cute waitress you slapped on the ass and called “doll” might be blogging for the Huffington Post. Tomorrow your shady deals will be all over the cyberwebs. We live in a world where everyone is a gonzo journalist.
We need to adapt to that world.
You want small government and big business? Fine, you can have it. But realize that small government means more personal rights for everyone, not favoring the White Anglo-Saxon Protestants. You want big business? Awesome, but realize those businesses are being run by young, idealistic people, some of whom… are GAY.
The republican party is lost in the past. Move over old bastards. There are young, intelligent republicans ready to clean up your mess of the party. Even they think guys like Carl Paladino are a joke.
And no, none of them like Glenn Beck.
